CHEMISTRY

Chemistry - a vibrant and growing science that encompasses every aspect of our lives. The fascinating study of matter and its applications is vital to the success of research endeavors. Important research areas like drug design, material science, nanotechnology and most importantly, ‘green chemistry’ are beneficial to both humanity and the environment. A vast array of industries - petrochemicals, bulk and fine chemicals, polymers, dyes & paints, pharmaceuticals, food additives & nutraceuticals are chemistry related and offer a wide range of rewarding careers.

About the Department

The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and oldest departments of Sophia College. The faculty works towards inculcating values, academic excellence and a  spirit of inquiry in the learner through innovative teaching pedagogies; aiming at the holistic development of each student through personal interaction, encouragement and beyond the classroom activities organized by the students under the Chemistry club.

The department also offers a Masters programme in analytical chemistry.Through Academia-Industry collaboration, research and internships this course equips the students for jobs in various fields.
